The 2009 GAYP National will be held on (Monday thru Friday) August 1 - 7, 2009, at the Americas Best Value Inn & Suites, in Lebanon, TN. The inn is located on Highway 231 (822 Cumberland Street) near I-40 (take exit 238 north off I-40).  The 2009, 5th Annual  “Arthur Niederhoffer  National Youth Tournament (for 21 and under) will take place (Saturday & Sunday) August 1 & 2.  The 2009 Jim Morrison GAYP National Tournament consists of 3 divisions.  Entry fees will be $50 (Master’s) / $30 (Majors) / $20 (Minors).  ACF Membership is required to enter all divisions, and may be paid at registration. Registration will take place Monday morning from 8:30-10:30 followed by a business meeting. Format will be 13 two-game rounds (2 rounds Monday, 3 rounds Tuesday through Thursday, two rounds Friday) scored by game. Three points are awarded for a bye and for a forfeited round.

Seeding rules (ACFB #274) state that ACF ratings will be used at registration. The gray area cutoff for Masters/Majors is 2250-2300. The gray area cutoff for Majors/Minors is 1950-1900. Players may play up one division. Winners of the Majors and Minors divisions of the past 3 Nationals (going back to 2006 GAYP) must play up.

Masters will use clocks (30 moves per hour) and record games. Majors and minors may do the same, but optional. “Move-a-minute” rules will not be applied if clocks are used. Frank Davis, Director/Sponsor - Mary Davis, Administrator & Scorekeeper - Referee, Tim Laverty.  The Lowder Rule will apply to keep tournament on schedule.  This has changed due to Frank's condition. Kim Willis has kindly agreed to substitute for Frank Davis as referee. (We wish Frank all the best and a speedy recovery.) The ACF has purchased a laptop, software pairing program (WinTD from Estima), and printer for referee use. Software-controlled pairings are already commonplace in Europe and were used in the 2005 GAYP qualifier in Prague. This should satisfy everyone.

ACF selected this year's tournament honoree, Grandmaster Jim Morrison of Glasgow, KY...  The 2009 Jim Morrison ACF National GAYP Tournament  is a fitting tribute to Mr. Morrison for his long record of GAYP achievements, and Lebanon, TN is close to where he lives, just 65 miles up the road.

Our National GAYP Tournaments are perpetuated by Derek E. Oldbury who lived from March 21, 1924 to July 9, 1994.  He won his first British Championship in 1953.  He won the U.S. National Ty. in 1976. Derek was the top British player in the 4th International Match (1983) with a 2-0-12 record.  He was 3-move World Champion from 1991-1994 and GAYP World Champion from 1976 -1982.  He was a checker author of several works and generously set up trust funds to promote GAYP play.  The bulk of our ACF Trust Fund is from his initial deposit. A portion of the prize fund is an interest withdrawal from our trust supporting the GAYP National in odd years.

For reservations, call 1-615-449-5781 and tell them you are a checker player.  King or Double Bed $59.95 but Checker Players rate is $45.00  Please make your reservations early.  For more information, call Frank Davis at 1-931-552-4246.
